Eat Healthy Tavern Food at 1920
This is a subtitle for your new post

The first thing that comes to mind when most hear the words “tavern food” is probably something along the lines of onion rings and soft pretzels ordered to accompany a couple pints of beer. But at 1920 Tavern, we’ve been blurring the lines between tavern food and elevated, chef-driven cuisine since our inception.
We have long described our menu as “refined but approachable,” “globally-influenced” and “carefully-curated,” which isn’t something many expect when they walk through our doors for the first time. But once they sit down in our speakeasy-inspired spot on Canton Street, they not only feel transported by the warm and cozy atmosphere but also by our modern, farm-to-table comfort classics.
We are not afraid to buck tradition with our seasonal specials and expansive selection of craft beverages and cocktails, and we try our best to offer something for everyone. That’s why at 1920 Tavern, it’s easy to keep it healthy with a wide variety of choices: think crisp salads, fresh oysters, and other healthy entrees.
Salads
At 1920 Tavern, we know that eating out is a treat and a luxury for many people, and that is why we offer so many decadent dishes on our dinner menu, from our Cajun Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes to our Bayou Fried Shrimp or our Boneless Short Rib Shepherd’s Pie. But if you’re trying to eat more health-conscious foods, there isn’t any reason why you can’t enjoy our menu too. Our salad selection actually contains some of our most popular picks. Each is carefully curated to include fresh and nutrient-dense ingredients such as mixed greens, avocado, toasted nuts, black olives and more. We recommend the Tavern Salad, a classic that includes mixed greens and chopped Romaine, red onion, avocado, roasted corn, egg, and Heirloom tomatoes, all topped with housemade vinaigrette and feta cheese.
Oysters
If you’re a dieter, you probably already know that many times seafood options will be healthier than other meat dishes. While our menu is rich in seafood entrees, we’ve found many prefer our oysters for their low-calorie but high nutritional value. We serve our oysters chargrilled and fresh on the half shell for a meal that not only tastes decadent but provides health benefits in the form of iron, protein, and vitamin D.
Light Entrees
Eating healthy food at a tavern isn’t about depriving yourself; it’s about making choices that will have a beneficial effect on your health rather than a detrimental one. With this in mind, 1920 Tavern offers a plethora of dishes to satisfy your taste buds while being conscious not to overload. Swap our Nawlin’s Shrimp & Grits for a lighter dish of Sesame Encrusted Seared Tuna, which comes with risotto and sauteed baby Bok-Choy. Or try our Blackened Mahi in place of our Southern Fried Chicken Dinner; our Mahi comes with goat cheese potato puree, wilted spinach and tomato beurre blanc for all of the flavor, minus the fried chicken and savory gravy.
